I have never stood beside one of my appliances with this kind of enthusiasm. Then again, our only brand new appliance — ever — was a Whirlpool refrigerator that Bear and I bought with gift money after our honeymoon. That was 25 years ago. We still have that refrigerator and I think our Maytag washer and dryer are just slightly younger than the appliances pictured above.
Based on what I have learned about the newfangled appliances, they are much more expensive to fix. Our lackluster, but faithful appliances rarely break down and our bill is usually around $80 to $100. I now know why that Maytag repairman was so lonely.
